Description

Almond (Terminalia catappa)

This large tree can be found throughout Barbados providing shade for many with its large leaves.  The fruit is edible with a slightly acidic taste.  Almond trees are salt tolerant and can grow well in various environments.  

Medicinally, these plants are used topically to dry out oozing wounds, in mouthwash and to clean soiled wounds.  They also help in weight loss and promote healthy bones.

Fun Fact: The trunk is a source of gum, as well as yellow and black dye.
